Can someone explain OCR full form in PDF to me?

I am trying to convert a 20-page scanned lease agreement into Word on my Mac, and an option for OCR keeps popping up in the settings. Can anyone explain what the full form of OCR is when working with PDFs and what it actually does to my file?

OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. It just reads the scanned image and turns it into real, selectable text. Honestly, defintely keep that checked if you want to edit the lease in Word, otherwise it will just paste as pictures.

OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition and it converts the image of your scanned pages into selectable text so Word can actually edit the lease. I use it for expense receipts on my tablet, fwiw clearer scans work better. What app on the Mac is showing that OCR option?

OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition, basically it looks at the scanned image of your lease and figures out what the actual letters are, then adds a text layer so you can select, copy, and search it instead of just having a flat picture. It’s annoying when it misreads stuff in contracts, especially numbers in a lease, so always keep the original scan backed up before converting. For a 20 page lease I’d double check the OCR output against the original for dates and dollar amounts since those errors are easy to miss.

OCR stands for “Optical Character Recognition.” It reads the text in each scanned page image and creates a searchable, selectable text layer, which allows Word to edit it instead of treating the PDF as pictures. For a lease, I would proofread the result carefully, especially names, dates, and numbers, since OCR can misread them.
