I generate PDF invoices for my clients, but I always need to add the issue date right before sending them out. How can I cleanly insert dates onto existing PDF files without messing up the layout?

Honestly, the simplest way is just opening them in Acrobat Reader and using the free Fill and Sign tool to drop text where you need it. It wont mess up the rest of your invoice layout at all.

@clumsy_goblin That works, but I set up a proper form field for dates on my invoice templates now. Learned the hard way that eye-balling text placement on client bills always ends up looking slightly crooked.

i do the same thing at the clinic, our intake pdfs have the date typed straight into the template before we print so nothing shifts around. eyeballing placement in reader always ends up a hair off for me too. @chess_grandpa

I add dates to expense PDFs on my tablet a lot, and what worked for me is Adobe Acrobat Reader’s fill and sign, just put a text box in and save a copy so nothing shifts. tbh I learned that the hard way. What device are you on?

I had to do this with our billing sheets last month. If you are on Windows, you do not need anything fancy.

1. Right-click the PDF and open it in Microsoft Edge.
2. Click the Add text icon at the top and type the date where you need it.
3. Click save.
